
Let Us Pause To Honor the Memory of
Raymond Joseph Godward, Jr.
Raymond Joseph Godward, Jr., age 94, of Indianapolis, Indiana and of Ely, Minnesota entered this life on June 12, 1928 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late Raymond Joseph, Sr. and Lillian Rosbach Godward. He was raised in Indianapolis and graduated from Short Ridge High School and had attended Purdue Extension University. Ray was united in marriage to Suzann Watt on November 23, 1950 at the Evangelical Reformed Christian Church in Indianapolis. This union of nearly 72 years was blessed with a son, Raymond Joseph, III and a daughter, Elizabeth Suzann. He was inducted into the United States Army on January 1, 1951 in Indianapolis. He served in the Chemical Corps during the Korean War entering active duty on May 10, 1952 and was honorably discharged on November 8, 1956. Ray was transferred to the Reserves and served until his retirement as Captain after 30 years of service. He was employed with Eli Lilly in 1950 and served as an Associate Chemical Engineer and retired in 1987 after 37 years of service. Ray served with the 5th Army Rifle Team and enjoyed target shooting. Ray was an avid fisherman and with that passion built the family cabin at Moose Lake in Ely, Minnesota and traveled there for 30 years. Ray was a gifted craftsman in woodworking and built the family home in 1976 near Fishers. He was a member of the Evangelical Reformed Christian Church in Indianapolis and had attended the First Baptist Church of Indianapolis. Ray died on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at 8:35 a.m. at the Hamilton Trace in Fishers, Indiana.
A LOVING FAMILY
Ray will be missed by his loving wife of nearly 72 years, Suzann "Sue" Watt Godward of Indianapolis, Indiana; his son, Joe Godward and his wife, Donna of Deputy, Indiana; his daughter, Beth Alexander and her husband, David of Fishers, Indiana; his grandchildren, Ben Godward and his wife, Annelie, Tim Godward and his wife, Steph, Jamie Alexander, and Megan Kilgore and her husband, Alex. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Joseph Godward, Sr., died in 1973, his mother, Lillian Rosbach Godward, died in 1978, and two brothers.
FUNERAL CEREMONY
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 15, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., by Chaplain Ben Thomas at the Gothic Chapel in Crown Hill Cemetery, 700 W. 38th Street in Indianapolis, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana.
VISITATION
Friends may visit Monday from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Gothic Chapel at the Crown Hill Cemetery, 700 W. 38th Street in Indianapolis, Indiana.
MILITARY HONORS
Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army - Indiana Ceremonial Team in Indianapolis, Indiana.
