Marvel L. Klimek, 87, of Babbitt, died Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Carefree Living in Babbitt after her determined battle with dementia.
She was born April 10, 1929, in Long Prairie, MN, to Louis and Olive (Maland) Patzoldt. She grew up in Long Prairie and graduated from Long Prairie High School. On Nov. 1, 1947, she was united in marriage to Elwin Klimek in Millerville, MN. Marvel spent her life operating businesses that she owned with her husband; Al’s Bus Lines in Babbitt, Klimek Enterprises, Red Carpet Motel and Klimek Mail.
Marvel was a volunteer and active in her community, was a previous board member at the Ely Hospital, a past Trail Administrator for Taconite Spur Snowmobile Trail System, a Cub Scout and Brownie leader, and a devout Christian. At the age of 65, she obtained her pilots license. She enjoyed painting, being at the cabin at Birch Lake, visiting the guests who stayed at the motel and especially spending time with her family.
Those whose lives she touched will remember her free spirt, her strength, kindness, open heartedness, grace, and generosity.
She is survived by children, Meylonie (Bob) Schatz of Lincoln, Neb., Elwin “Louie” Klimek of Babbitt and Edward (Lynda) Klimek of Mountain Iron; daughter-in-law: Betty Klimek of Embarrass; grandchildren, Sarah, Mark, Jay, Jennifer, Teresa, Adam, and Mathew; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Darren Klimek; sisters, Lois and Susan and brother, Arnold
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2017, at Woodland Presbyterian Church in Babbitt with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Frank Davis will officiate.
