Carol Jean (Oberstar) Debeltz, 74, of Hutchinson, MN moved the polka party to heaven on September 29, 2017. A celebration of her life will be held at Immaculate Conception Church in Hibbing, MN on October 21, 2017 at noon. A traditional Catholic mass will be followed with a joyous celebration of Polka music, balloons, noisemakers and her favorite foods of tacos and ice cream.
Carol came dancing into the world on March 22, 1943 in Hibbing, MN. Her fighting weight was a whopping 4 lbs 7 ounces. Everyone learned quickly not to underestimate her small stature! After graduating from Hibbing High School in 1962 she married Jack Debeltz and moved to Ely. She continued to allow her bubbly personality to shine while she coached and played softball, volleyball and bowling. She loved motorcycles and was an avid snowmobile racer with too many trophies to count. She’d hit that throttle and she was OFF!! Polka and waltzes kept her little toes tapping as she danced around the floor and won many dance competitions at Iron World. She also loved her work driving trucks in mines at Reserve Mining from where she retired. Her kids are certain it was because she was on a power trip with those pillows under her behind so she could reach the pedals and see over the wheel. She moved to Hutchinson, MN in 2011 to make sure that her grandchildren were behaving and to teach them to enjoy the little things in life. Carol always made it known that she loved you. She also made it known she would “put her foot up you’re behind” if you got on her nerves. Her smile and laugh were contagious and always present with her favorite song “You Are My Sunshine.”
Those hanging back for a while to continue to celebrate her life are her son Jason and his wife Patti; daughter Raquel “Rocky”; grandchildren Reagan and Riley; sisters Lucy Ann (Dennis) and Rose Marie (Roger); brother Steven (Michelle) and dozens of nieces and nephews. Those who were waiting in heaven for another dance with Carol are her husband Jack; parents Frank and Lucille; stepfather Bennie, brother Frankie Jr., and nieces Brandy and Kimberly.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations are requested in Carol’s memory to: Ely Igloo Snowmobile Club, PO Box 464, Ely, MN 55731.
The song has ended but the melody lingers on...
