Bernard F. Herrmann, 75, of Ely, dies

Bernard F. Herrmann, 75, born in Alsace, France on Feb. 19, 1942, died in Ely, Minnesota on Friday, April 22, 2017.
During his lifetime Bernard received many honors and titles, including: “Chevalier Du Merite” – Knighted by the French Government for Culinary Excellence, “Maitre Cuisinier de France” – Master Chef of France since 1979, Member of the Order of “Grand Orient de France” – Free Mason, Former Secretary General “Academie Culinaire de France” (US Chapter), Former Vice President and Commander “Commanderie de Cordons Bleus de France” (US Chapter), Member of the Societe Culinaire Philanthropique, Former Vice President of the “Culinary Vatel Club,” Former Professor of the Culinary Arts “Ecole LeNotre” – Paris and Houston Texas.
From 1961 to 1963, Bernard served in the French Army as a Sahara Rat Patrol during the France/Algerian War.
He was an avid soccer player and coach. He was an avid Alpine ski instructor; also a lifetime member in the “American Fishing Club.”
Bernard is survived by his sister Ginette Vonau, ex- wife Brigitte, son Michael (Jenny), grandsons Andrew (15) and Noah (10), and the community of Ely which adopted him in 1998.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring with further details to follow. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to: American Cancer Society, Ely Community Hospital Foundation.

He died at at Ely Bloomenson Community Hospital in Ely. Family arrangements have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.
