Mary Jane Davis, 91, dies

Funeral Service Tuesday, January 9, 2017, at Ely United Methodist Church

Mary Jane Davis, 91, died Thursday, January 4, 2018, in Ely,
Minnesota. Mary was born September 29, 1926 in Cloquet, Minnesota to Bill
and Mayme Clendening. She graduated from Carlton High School in 1944 and
actively participated in several music groups. She was a member of the
Paine Memorial Presbyterian Church. Mary graduated from the College of St.
Scholastica Department of Nursing in 1949 and worked as an R.N. at St.
Mary's Hospital in Duluth for 27 years. She was a member of Woodland United
Methodist Church and the Twin Ports Genealogical Society.
In 1949 she married Lawrence Edward "Pete" Davis and spent the
next several years raising their family in Duluth. She was a loving mother
to her children and grandchildren. Music was a big part of her life - she
was a church organist, pianist, and sang in the choir. Mary excelled in her
love of cooking. She enjoyed her nursing career and was happy to help
people.
In 1985 Pete and Mary moved to Eagle's Nest Lake. Mary was
involved with the ENL Association, EN Seniors, was a charter member and
first president of the "Fireflies" (auxiliary to the Fire Department), and
was a member of Ely United Methodist Church.
Mary is survived by her husband Pete, daughter Joy (Robert)
Sundquist, and son Mark (Linda) Davis; grandchildren: Shelly, Aaron (Jana),
Pamela, and Nic; and great-grandchildren: Brookelyn, Brayden, Maddelyn,
Finnean, Emmelyn, Blake, and Molly. Mary is also survived by Robert
Sundquist's children and grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W.J. "Bill" and Mayme
(Butterfield) Clendening.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am Funeral
Service Tuesday, January 9, 2017, at Ely United Methodist Church. Pastor
Dana Thompson will officiate. Spring Interment will be in the Ely Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or the
American Cancer Society.
