Katherine A. “Kay” Klabe, 100, of Ely dies

Katherine A. “Kay” Klabe, 100, of Ely died peacefully on March 27, 2018 at her home.
She was born on November 30, 1917 in Ely to Steve and Katherine (Jaketic) Golobich and attended school there. Following high school graduation, she moved to Chicago to visit friends and search for a job. Kay quickly found work in the big city and began her career in the corporate insurance and administrative field.
On September 29, 1952 she married Milton L. Klabe of Chicago, where they made their home. Kay worked at the National Can Corporation from which she retired in 1978 with over 25 years of service. Upon retirement, Kay and Milt moved to Ely, where she enjoyed gardening, walking, reading, traveling, and meeting and conversing with people.
Kay is survived by her brother Tony (Angie) Golobich of Ely; nieces and nephews: Robbie Golobich of Wayzata; Gerry (Mary Lynn) Golobich of Mt. Iron; Russ (Sue) Golobich of Coon Rapids; Nancy Hemstreet of Wheaton, IL; Cindy (Dr. Scott) Strote of Palos Park, IL; and Vernon (Cheryle) Sager of Waldorf, MD; great niece and great nephews: Jennifer (fiancé Chris), Steven (Jill), Travis, and Brent of Minnesota, as well as several great nieces and great nephews in other states.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, husband Milton, and brother Steve Golobich.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2018 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Ely. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the mass. Inurnment will be in the Ely Cemetery. Funeral arrangement have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home.
