Flora G. Johnson, 96 went peacefully in her sleep April 27, 2020. She is survived by her husband Roy, two sons Randy and Ron, twin daughters Sandra Wright and Susan Teale, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Rusty, her twin sister Fern Waldron, Winnie, and brother Bill.
Flora was born January 16, 1924. Her parents are Mable and William Doeppinger in Des Plaines, IL. She attended Main Township High School and was a cheerleader with her sister Fern. She married Roy Johnson on April 7, 1945. This year they celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. Her early married years were dedicated to raising her five children. Family vacations were visiting the “States.” Flora enjoyed sewing, knitting, and making baby clothes for Sandy and Susy. Later, her working years involved secretarial, office management and assistant to the general manager with Hyatt and Marriott Hotels. She loved to travel. Her highlights were to Turkey, Baltic, Scandinavian Countries, St Petersburg, Russia, Panama Canal, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Ely Minnesota. She was especially proud of some 15 summers they enjoyed in a family-built home on the Villa Road on White Iron Lake. She enjoyed her Ely friends and relatives. She agreed time had arrived and the trips to Ely were a bit trying so they sold their property and lived year-round in Georgia.
Flora was blessed with a wonderful loving family and a full and blessed life. Both Roy and Flora were life-long members of the First Lutheran Church in Ely.
